Piet Paris: Raf Simons’ 2008 summer collection for Jil Sander was made up of circles, squares and triangles. It is a miracle that a dress shaped with only six squares (three in the front and three in the back) can make a woman look like a princess. This collection sparked an international revaluation of simple, clear forms, and has attracted a huge following. An example of this is the design made by Christopher Kane, who developed the form into a more decorative and romantic concept. Jil Sander’s men’s line for summer 2008 conveyed the same simple expressive language: the front is yellow, the back is black.
