Pavilion: Amazement & Proportion

Thom Browne and Andrea Ayala Closa in the Amazement / Proportion Pavilion— photography by Sixth Lens
Piet Paris: What proportion does the upper side of a garment bear to the underside? How big is the suit jacket vis-à-vis the trousers? These are both questions that occupy Thom Browne. In this context he is the most transgressive menswear designer. His trousers are extremely short and his jackets are extra narrow, breaking on the waist. Browne adds absurdness to the traditional men’s uniform: the suit, causing a likeness reminiscent of the uniform Napoleon used to sport. Catalan Andrea Ayala Closa literally blows up all dimensions. By elongating the body extremely and surrealistically (the wearer’s head is hidden in the chest cavity of the silhouette) all proportions have gone astray.
