Pavilion: Amazement & Material

Piet Paris: The Rodarte sisters live in their own world and seem to be doing everything for the first time. Their knitwear looks as if it was created by a child who dropped a stitch or two. Despite some aggressive accents, such as studs on shoes, Rodarte wondrously manages to create a poetic dream world. Sandra Backlund’s work evokes the same astonishment. It seems as if this Swedish designer is seeking for the ultimate form knitted with thick woollen yarns in a fairytale turret room. Backlund is responsible for a renewed interest in knitting, and her work is an important source of inspiration for the international fashion world.
