Cees Krijnen in the summerhall
The summer hall did not solely revolve around joyful and light subjects though. The work of Cees Krijnen, who showed an installation of a feminine dress in combination with a photograph in which a model in the same dress is portrayed amongst a set of enlarged dildos, stems from less happy feelings.

“My work can be read like a journal. I started with ‘Financing my parents’ divorce’. It was a reaction to the divorce of my parents; they litigated for 17 years. It was about nothing, the partition of property went on until the last cups and saucers were divided. I longed to call a halt and so the divorce became part of my work. My mother is my subject. In my artwork I thought up different clothing styles for her, from fighting suits and sophisticated punk to elegant and feminine fashion. Over the years my mother has become my muse. Because I made the divorce public in my own way, it became easier for her to deal with. The divorce came to a conclusion two years ago. With this installation called Body Double, I wanted to create an alter ego for my mom. I was wondering what life will bring her.”
