2 June 13.00 – 17.00 hrs
Catwalkzaal De Steenfabriek
International symposium
It has been impossible to imagine the collections of leading couturiers without accessories and the accompanying advertising campaigns ever since Prada launched the ‘Pocone backpack’ and Tom Ford revamped Gucci’s line of classic bags as a luxurious fashion brand. This topical theme is the leitmotif for Fashion & Accessories, a varied programme of short
lectures, presentations and interviews with international theorists, artists and designers, film screenings and performances. This programme is being organised by dAcapo-ArtEZ (the general studies department), and the readership in fashion at the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in association with Arnhem Fashion Biennale. The programme opens on 2 June with the international symposium:
‘Why are accessories so important in contemporary fashion?’
with José Teunissen (Professor in Fashion Design, ArtEZ Institute of the Arts), Clare Sauro (Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York), Naomi Filmer (accessory designer for Chalayan, McQueen, etc.), David Shah (trendwatcher, fashion
designer and magazine publisher, Associate Professor at ArtEZ), Shoplifter (visual artist), Virginie Viallon (linguist, Université de la Mode, Lyon), Luca Marchetti (semiologist and fashion curator, mosign, Institut Français de la Mode and CELSA – La Sorbonne, Paris).
The program will be in English.
