Romain Kremer

‘Bold costumes for the urban warrior'

The tone of the winter 2006 collection by Romain Kremer was set by an enigmatic gold-coloured outfit draped with ‘tubes'.

Since this Frenchman started showing his menswear collections in Paris, the discriminating fashion public has been confronted with designs they've never imagined before. ‘When I'm in the process of designing I still have no tangible idea in my head, but a sense of freedom,' Kremer says about his work, which seems to refer to the Middle Ages as much as to the future.

In 2005 he won the Special Award for Creativity during the annual fashion festival in Hyères for his hybrid men's outfits: tracksuits with caped shoulders, to give an impression. His theatrical costumes - meant for the urban warrior? - are filled with references that are difficult to decode.

Kremer (b. 1982) worked as an intern at Dior Homme and Gaspard Yurkievich. He launched a label for women's and men's lines under his own name in 2003, on completing his MA at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Appliqués Duperré in Paris.
