‘Crazy about cashmere'
Who the designers behind KIND actually are remains a mystery. ‘It's about KIND, not about us. Just call us Mr and Mrs Kind.' Despite being shrouded in such secrecy, the label is brimming with unbridled imagination. Made from luxuriously soft cashmere, their knitted men's and women's collections ‘read' like a comic strip. The summer 2006 collection tells a story about a journey in a submarine with motifs such as octopus and sharks. Inspiration for the most recent winter collection was drawn from Alice in Wonderland, intermixed with a surreal wink at Italian fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli.
The accessories are just as original: take ‘Hot Legs', a cashmere scarf in the form of a shapely, life-size ballerina's leg, for example.
KIND's whimsical designs have stolen the hearts of buyers at leading boutiques and department stores, including Colette in Paris and Dover Street Market, Harvey Nichols and Liberty in London. Two KIND outfits were shown at the first edition of the Arnhem Fashion Biennale in 2005.
