14 april - 26 August
CODA Museum
The exhibition ‘Jan, Jans en de Mode' at the CODA Museum in Apeldoorn uses five cartoon strips to explore the role of fashion in the life of a Dutch family. The mosdels are the renowned cartoon family: Jan, Jans and their children.
The exhibition's curator, Piet Paris, was primarily captivated by self-willed Jans. He has dressed Jan en Jans, their daughters Karlijn and Catootje, and their young friend Jeroen in outfits that suit their respective
ages. Fashion creations and accessories from the 1950s, '60s and '70s are displayed alongside more recent designs by haute couture labels including Dior and louis Vuitton.
The jewellery and accessories have kindly been loaned from CODA Museum, the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, the renowned Dutch jewellery collector Marian Unger and others. In short, this is a congenial and
light-hearted exhibition that draws attention to the seriousness and joviality of fashion using unusual as well as amusing designs.
